Strange laws are strange, but they also tell a story. The story is about strange problems that needed strange laws to solve. Also, those laws tell us a lot about lawmakers and their world view.

It is illegal to pawn dentures in Las Vegas

You can imagine that pawning dentures was a real problem at one point they had to ban it. This a really strange law, but a lot of toothless people walking around would be much stranger.

Hula-Hoops

The usage of Hula-Hops is prohibited on Fremont Street. The reason comes from practical problems, at one time many street performers were using them, and that caused crowding and even traffic jams. 

You can`t hire a communist

This law dates from the cold war and red scare times. Communist-hunting stopped at one point but for some reason, in Las Vegas, this law is still active.

Avoid Feeding Pigeons

Las Vegas officials estimate that pigeons cause a lot of damage in Las Vegas, and even claimed that the pigeons attacked visitors. So, they made a law preventing humans to feed the pigeons.

Camels are not allowed on highways

This law is a legacy of the old times. During the 19th century, Camels were a popular mode of transportation in Nevada dessert, but officials of that time banned them because they were causing more problems than expected.

Hip-Hop concerts are illegal

Legendary rapper Tupac Shakur has been shot and killed in Las Vegas. The government of that time didn`t want to go deeper into the issue of violence in their city, so they blamed the hip-hop. This is a classical example of a strawman argument logical fallacy.
