Who says Las Vegas doesn't have local culture? The monthly art fest First Friday kicks off the weekend on Friday. Walk around the Downtown Arts District and check out the work of 40 local artists. You'll find plenty of food trucks, too. The vibe is awesome and it's free to walk around. The art walk starts at 1025 S 1st St.

2. Take the kids to the Big Little Variety Show @ The Alexis Park Resort
Family-friendly shows that can legitimately entertain the whole crew are rare, even in Las Vegas. When was the last time that you laughed at the Wiggles?
The Big Little Variety Show at the Alexis Park Resort does it right. This is a fun, spirited show full of wholesome "ooh" and "aah" moments. You don't need to hang out on The Strip to enjoy one of the best shows in town.

3. Watch independent movies at the Las Vegas Premiere Film Festival @ the Boulevard Mall
The Las Vegas Premiere Film Festival takes place at the theater inside the Boulevard Mall. Starting on Friday, the event is three jam-packed days featuring independent movies like "Warrior Spirit," a documentary about a Native American UFC champion. Most screenings also feature Q&A sessions with the team behind the movie.

4. Connect with nature at Lee's Canyon Mountain Fest @ Mount Charelston
Step outside and enjoy nature at Lee Canyon. Mountain Fest is a free, all-ages event featuring food trucks, eclectic vendors, and live music by the Moanin Blacksnakes, Pyro Surgers, No Que No, and Shanda and the Howlers. You and the gang can enjoy activities like an axe-throwing charity event and a cross-cut log competition.
If you're heading out without young ones, try the beer garden. Sample a flight of 18 beers for $25.

5. Hang out with lions @ the Lion Habitat Ranch
Celebrate World Lion Day at the Lion Habitat Ranch, a nonprofit focused on rehabilitating big cats. This is another event that the whole family can enjoy. Kids can compete in a costume contest and a scavenger hunt while adults can interact with 30 lions and other animals.
