What To Do in Las Vegas This Weekend (Aug 6 - 8)

Browse around the Downtown Arts District during First Friday, watch an independent film festival, hang out with lions, and more this weekend in Las Vegas. Let's do this!

1. Get cultured at First Friday @ The Downtown Arts District

Who says Las Vegas doesn't have local culture?  The monthly art fest First Friday kicks off the weekend on Friday. Walk around the Downtown Arts District and check out the work of 40 local artists. You'll find plenty of food trucks, too. The vibe is awesome and it's free to walk around. The art walk starts at 1025 S 1st St.

When: Friday from 5 - 11 pm

2. Take the kids to the Big Little Variety Show @ The Alexis Park Resort

Family-friendly shows that can legitimately entertain the whole crew are rare, even in Las Vegas. When was the last time that you laughed at the Wiggles?

The Big Little Variety Show at the Alexis Park Resort does it right. This is a fun, spirited show full of  wholesome "ooh" and "aah" moments. You don't need to hang out on The Strip to enjoy one of the best shows in town.

When:  Friday through Sunday at 4:30 pm

3. Watch independent movies at the Las Vegas Premiere Film Festival @ the Boulevard Mall

The Las Vegas Premiere Film Festival takes place at the theater inside the Boulevard Mall. Starting on Friday, the event is three jam-packed days featuring independent movies like "Warrior Spirit," a documentary about a Native American UFC champion. Most screenings also feature Q&A sessions with the team behind the movie.

When: All weekend

4. Connect with nature at Lee's Canyon Mountain Fest @ Mount Charelston

Step outside and enjoy nature at Lee Canyon. Mountain Fest is a free,  all-ages event featuring food trucks, eclectic vendors, and live music by the  Moanin Blacksnakes, Pyro Surgers, No Que No, and Shanda and the Howlers.  You and the gang can enjoy activities like an axe-throwing charity event and a cross-cut log competition.

If you're heading out without young ones, try the beer garden. Sample a flight of 18 beers for $25.

When: Saturday from 11 am - 6 pm

5. Hang out with lions @ the Lion Habitat Ranch

Celebrate  World Lion Day at the Lion Habitat Ranch, a nonprofit focused on rehabilitating big cats. This is another event that the whole family can enjoy. Kids can compete in a costume contest and a scavenger hunt while adults can interact with 30 lions and other animals.

When: Saturday and Sunday  from 10 am  - 2 pm
