Last Week in Las Vegas Sports (Aug 2 - 8)

Kurt Busch losses ride at Trackhouse Racing, Derek Carr praises defense and Marc-Andre Fleury talks about his trade to the Blackhawks, all on this week in Las Vegas sports.

#5 Kurt Busch out at Trackhouse Racing in 2022

Kurt Busch might be one of the most gifted veterans still running the NASCAR Cup Series, but all that could be coming to an end if the Las Vegas native doesn't find a new home by the end of the 2021 season. While there was originally hope that Busch would go to Trackhouse Racing, it was revealed this week that the race team decided to go with Ross Chastain instead. Unfortunately, that leaves Busch without a ride for next season .

There are some rumors that Busch could be heading to 23XI Racing to help develop their growing team, but nothing official has come through the pike on that. If a ride at 23XI Racing doesn't pan out, Busch could still end up at Roush Fenway Racing, now owned by Brad Keselowski.  Busch might even be able to get a ride at Stewart Haas Racing next year if the right opportunity presents itself. It all depends on who has a seat available.

#4 Carl Nassib comments on coming out as NFL's first openly gay player

It's been about a month since Las Vegas Raiders player Carl Nassib came out as the first openly gay player in the NFL. The announcement was met with support from teammates and opponents alike. How does Nassib feel about it now? He talked to reporters this week and answered that question for everyone.

"It has been great," Nassib said Friday in a press conference for the first time since coming out "I knew it was going to be good. I had zero stress about that, absolutely no worries about it. We've got a great locker room, great teammates. I've been met with nothing but love and support. It has been incredible."

#3 WWE announces mask mandate for Summerslam in Las Vegas.

SummerSlam is set to take place in Las Vegas later this month and while Sin City will be an interesting motif for the company to play with, COVID-19 has still managed to crash the party. Fans will have to be masked to take part in the WWE fun at Allegiant stadium.

"Allegiant Stadium takes the health and safety of its guests, employees, and staff very seriously," Ticketmaster and Allegiant stadium posted online.

While this will be a bummer to many fans, it won't ruin the party.

#2 Derek Carr praises Trevon Moehrig in practice

Trevon Moehrig hasn't played a single down of NFL football yet but is still receiving praise for his ability to cover opponents in training camp this summer. One vocal advocate of Moerhig and his abilities is Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, who claimed he wants to pit the young upstart against Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes later this season. This is a huge endorsement and might be a sign that the Raiders' defense is slowly getting better.

“This guy can actually cover, so it’s impressive,” Carr said of Moehring, according to The Athletic’s Vic Tafur. "And that excites me as a quarterback because I want him to do that to (Patrick) Mahomes.”

#1 Marc-Andre Fleury comments on being traded by Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Golden Knights decided to trade Marc-Andre Fleury to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Mikael Hakkarainen, and fans are NOT happy about it. The idea that Las Vegas would break up one of the greatest goalie tandems in the NHL was unfathomable a few weeks ago.  This is the reality we're facing now, though, and  Fleury took the time to sit down with reporters this week to give his thoughts on the controversial move.

"A little bit," Fleury said when asked if he was surprised by the trade. "It’s summer, it was that time. That’s scary, you don’t what’s going to happen. Been traded before, right? I guess so, right? It is, yeah, it is a little surprising. "
