#5 What is WWE Money in the bank and why is Las Vegas the perfect place for it?

Money in the bank is an annual WWE pay-per-view that features a men's and women's Money in the Bank ladder match. All a superstar has to do to win their respective briefcase is incapacitate their other opponents, climb the ladder and bring down the briefcase. Inside the briefcase is a contract guaranteeing the winning superstar a title match at a time and place of their choosing.

While the concept might sound simple on its own, there are usually six or eight opponents, making for all-out carnage. Due to the rules of a traditional ladder match, superstars are allowed to use the item as a weapon. This includes jumping off it to inflict damage on an opponent or even striking them with the ladder. It's all fair game with Money in the Bank.

Now, why Las Vegas? Why does the city serve as the perfect host for an event like this?

It's Sin City! Just like you take a risk every time you place a bet in the casino, the superstars take a risk every time they go for the briefcase.

#4 Edge was the first Money in the Bank winner in WWE history.

Before WWE made Money in the Bank its own pay-per-view, it was a gimmick match on Wrestlemania 21’s undercard. Edge came out as the winner of the inaugural contest and held the briefcase for almost a year. He finally cashed in on  John Cena, who had just survived an elimination chamber match against five other competitors at New Years' Resolution. All it took was two spears for Edge to finally become WWE Champion! It also marked the beginning of Money in the Bank becoming a household name in WWE.

#3 WWE first made Money in the bank a pay-per-view in 2010

The Money in the Bank ladder match, invented by now AEW Superstar Chris Jericho, officially became a  WWE pay-per-view in 2010. WWE even added a female version of the match in 2017, equalizing the men and women on the roster. Carmella was the women’s first Money in the Bank winner and she cashed in on Asuka a short time later.

Going back to the first Money in the Bank pay-per-view, it featured a stacked card of matchups that were the top feuds of the time. This included a steel cage match between WWE Champion Sheamus and John Cena.

#2 The first time a WWE Money in the bank cash in was unsuccessful.

The very first unsuccessfulMoney in the Bank cash-in came on July 23rd, 2012, when John Cena called his shot and challenged CM Punk for The WWE Title at Raw 1000. Yeah, Cena is probably the last person you’d expect to blow his opportunity like that this, but Big Show attacked him during the contest.

At the time of this writing, the women have never been unsuccessful during a Money in the Bank cash-in but have had their share of controversial matches.

#1 The night WWE pulled off the perfect Money in the Bank cash in.

The year was 2015, andWWE was in the midst of a very disastrous year of programming. Superstar after superstar was injured for one reason or another, the superstars who fans wanted to see weren't getting enough attention, and Roman Reigns was being shoved down fans throats. It was just an all-around bad time for the company.

This was all highlighted during Roman Reigns's feud with Brock Lesnar in the build-up to WrestleMania 31, which featured one of the worst 'go home Raw' episodes in WWE history. The two men literally got in a tug of war over the WWE Title, and the company somehow thought it was enough to satisfy their audience.

Fast Forward to that Sunday, though, and everything changed. The spark that ignited that change was Seth Rollins, who interrupted the main event match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase. Rollins essentially made it a triple threat match and picked the bones of his opponents after their 20-minute contest.

In the end, it was Rollins capitalizing on a prone Roman Reigns with a curb stomp to win his first WWE Championship. It also marked the first time the Money in the Bank briefcase had been used in the main event of WrestleMania, making it an iconic moment.
