The year was 2015, and WWE was in the midst of a very disastrous year of programming. Superstar after superstar was injured for one reason or another, the superstars who fans wanted to see weren't getting enough attention, and Roman Reigns was being shoved down fans throats. It was just an all-around bad time for the company.
This was all highlighted during Roman Reigns's feud with Brock Lesnar in the build-up to WrestleMania 31, which featured one of the worst 'go home Raw' episodes in WWE history. The two men literally got in a tug of war over the WWE Title, and the company somehow thought it was enough to satisfy their audience.
Fast Forward to that Sunday, though, and everything changed. The spark that ignited that change was Seth Rollins, who interrupted the main event match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase. Rollins essentially made it a triple threat match and picked the bones of his opponents after their 20-minute contest.
In the end, it was Rollins capitalizing on a prone Roman Reigns with a curb stomp to win his first WWE Championship. It also marked the first time the Money in the Bank briefcase had been used in the main event of WrestleMania, making it an iconic moment.
