Jack Eichel was traded to the Las Vegas Golden Knights last week and while it may take some time for Eichel to make his way out on the ice in the signature uniform, he is well on the way to recovery. In fact, Eichel, who was traded to the Knights after a months-long feud with Buffalo Sabres doctors, underwent successful disc replacement surgery on Friday and will spend three weeks recovering in Denver, Colorado. After he has recovered, the centerman will fly to Las Vegas to undergo the rest of his three-month rehabilitation period.
“I think there’s been maybe a narrative created that I was going out and doing something that’s never been done to a hockey player, but this is an FDA-approved surgery that’s been around for a long time,” Eichel said when asked about his decision to do disc replacement surgery over undergoing a neck fusion. “My surgeon started doing it in the early 2000s, so he’s been doing it for 20 years. I feel very, very confident in what I’m doing.”
