Track #1: Ru Paul’s Drag Race LIVE! @Flamingo Las Vegas

Drag shows are all about freedom from the mundane. They also offer an escape from societal judgment and oppression. So let’s raise our glasses to all the drag queens, who are, in effect, modern freedom fighters.

RuPaul’s hyper-paced “Drag Race LIVE!” show at The Flamingo triumphantly stands out in a city teeming with drag shows and brunches. With a rotating cast of 14 performers, all alums of the TV show, it conjures a day-glo planet where everyone lives their best lives.

The 90-minute show premiered in late January 2020, closed for the pandemic in March of that year, and returned in January 2022. It has been going strong ever since, having just celebrated its 700th performance on March 9. The all-ages “Drag Race LIVE!” show mainstream-izes drag culture and celebrates, in its own words, “love, laughter, and life,” soundtracked to pulsating disco, house music, and pop.

On an array of striking sets, the stiletto-heeled stars of “Drag Race LIVE!” deliver sassy attitudes and “lip-synch smack-downs” that honor artists like Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, and Dua Lipa. They provide visual drama, too, with elaborate costumes covered in sequins, rhinestones, and feathers (would you expect anything less?).

Add the energetic, chiseled male dancers known as “The Pit Crew” to the mix, and you have a lively and bold night out in Vegas.

The performers—and the cheering audience—get to exercise their freedom in this politically charged election year.
