Cruise with The Docksiders to Venetian's '1923 LIVE' - A VEGAS 411 Exclusive
Grand Canal Shoppes' new entertainment/event destination revives the glory days of parlor magic, cool sounds, and craft cocktails...
Kevin Sucher is a dreamer. As creator of THE DOCKSIDERS, the singer/songwriter/producer was determined for his hit "yacht rock" crew to conquer Las Vegas. That vision included a Strip residency, but not just at any casino hotel. His longtime dream was to have THE DOCKSIDERS drop anchor at Venetian Resort.
At the same time, fellow dreamer Noel Bowman wanted to broaden the concept of his 1923 Prohibition Bar. A classy, intimate speakeasy inside Shops at Mandalay Place, 1923 Prohibition Bar had proven itself successful enough to follow the path of his MINUS 5 Ice Bar collective. In other words...more locations.

Bowman found the perfect spot to build another '1923'. This one would not only feature live entertainment, but enough space to host private events. With things moving rapidly, the entrepreneur was soon scouting for talent. That led him to a downtown concert by THE DOCKSIDERS in February. Less than two months later, Kevin Sucher and Noel Bowman are sharing this big announcement:

Led by three-time Grammy Award nominee Kevin Sucher, The Docksiders – Yacht Rock Experience will be the resident musical group at '1923 LIVE'. From Michael McDonald to Christopher Cross and everything in between, visitors can prepare to dance the night away with smooth tunes. Attendees can also get into the spirit of the high seas by donning their best nautical attire and captain’s hats for an evening to remember.
The Docksiders residency begins Friday, June 7th. The show will play on select weekends at 8:30 pm. Tickets will soon be available here.

The announcement of a new DOCKSIDERS residency comes just as the band is ready to release its new album. THE DOCKSIDERS - The Timeless Journey will be released on April 5th. 1923 Live will include a magical element that became a surprise hit at Mandalay Bay: close-up parlor illusions. THE MAGICIAN'S STUDY was a smash at the original 1923, and Kent Axell's GHOST STORIES proved to be an exciting, worthy successor. The Venetian show is called LEGERDEMAIN, and it will perform inside a specially-constructed "hidden room".

Described as "speakeasy magic", LEGERDEMAIN is already a New York City sensation. It rides to Las Vegas on a wave of rave reviews. "Legerdemain" means "sleight of hand, cunning, or trickery." The show arrives just as "smoke and mirror" spectacles by David Copperfield and Criss Angel are appearing to lose steam. Out with the old, in with the "retro cool"?As '1923 LIVE’s hidden speakeasy magic and comedy show, LEGERDEMAIN will shuffle close-up magic with comedy and rich storytelling in a new experience performed for small audiences. One of the rarest tickets in town, the show is engaging and the audience isn’t just watching, they are part of the show. Additionally, custom cocktails are woven into the captivating performance.

LEGERDEMAIN's audience is limited to sixty patrons, so each seat should be a winner. The show is overseen by Bowman, HKM/KDP Productions, and Adam Steck of SPI Entertainment. It features charismatic Jonathan Levit, Hollywood's go-to consultant for magic-themed films like NOW YOU SEE ME and THE AMAZING BURT WONDERSTONE. Showtimes are 5 pm and 7 pm on most weekends. "With 1923 Live, my goal is to keep the small lounge act era alive and well on the Las Vegas Strip,” said Noel Bowman. “With the current emphasis on A-list headliners and mega-star residencies, the historic lounge rooms of yesteryear seem to be disappearing from the Strip."
"There is so much local talent deserving the spotlight", he continued, "so this venue will be the new home for these sorts of intimate, live performances. We cannot wait to launch these two residencies when we open in May and look forward to adding more in the future.”
If you've followed my rants on gouging, you know that Venetian's VOLTAIRE instituted the unthinkable last November. By that, I mean forcing each guest to pay a minimum $200.00 bar tab (plus taxes/fees/tip) on top of incredibly steep ticket prices. 1923 Live turns that bullsh*t on its ear by including two craft cocktails with every paid admission. It's time the pendulum swings back....all the way to 1923.
Slated to open this May, '1923 LIVE' will be beautifully appointed with underground, Prohibition-style 20s-inspired décor; a stage for live performances; and a view overlooking the famed Grand Canal gondoliers. Each live performance will be accompanied by upscale, handcrafted cocktails made with fine spirits.
1923's second location will occupy a large, inviting space decked out in Prohibition-style, 20s-inspired decor situated about Minus5 ICEBAR at Grand Canal Shopped. In true speakeasy fashion, 1923 LIVE will only be accessible to guests receiving secret instructions guiding them to its cleverly-concealed entrance.
