Acclaimed Neil Diamond tribute artist rocks the house at Alexis Park Resort

The leaves have barely settled on the ground, yet Modern Showrooms at Alexis Park is already shaking the 2024 entertainment tree. I recently told you about the re-imagined FLASHBACK - Tina Turner and Friends, as well as a two-parter on the new casts of FRANKLY FRANK. Entertainment Director Lisa Gay continues to expand the dual showroom's offerings with GUITAR NIGHT and the return of Nelia Ross in ELEGANCE: The Show. Now comes word of a new "Neil Diamond" lead performer for KING OF DIAMONDS: The Neil Diamond Tribute.

Detroit native David J. Sherry is a nationally-recognized Neil Diamond tribute artist. He tours with his seven-piece band in DIAMOND IS FOREVER! - The Neil Diamond Experience. But for the next nine weeks, Sherry has joined the KING OF DIAMONDS band at Alexis Park Resort, filling in for regular cast member Rob Garrett (who is currently touring through Arizona, Florida, and California).

Sherry tends to avoid the label of "impersonator". He approaches his performances from a place of reverence and tribute. To that end, Sherry aims to capture the spirit and style of Diamond while injecting his personality and showmanship into the mix. The result is a crowd-pleasing confection that's captured fans' imaginations for nearly two decades.

Only a few performances into his stint, Sherry has already expressed appreciation for Sin City audiences and its local musicians:

"I LOVE LAS VEGAS! Last night was Amazing!! Just my 2nd night here and another standing ovation and clapping, whistling, and the demands of “One more song!” from the audience after we left the stage. Even after they turned on the house lights! What could I do but give them what they wanted!!"

"The lights were lowered and the band hit the stage for a raucous reprise of Sweet Caroline! Everyone was “with me!” Reaching Out… Ba Ba Ba-ing and singing along! It was absolutely wild! Made a real connection with the audience and the musicians are cool people and killer players, we really had fun!"

Wayne Bernath is a longtime Las Vegas booking agent and publicist. He was the first to alert this writer about Sherry's limited run during Rob Garrett's absence. Bernath, too, has been thrilled by reactions from visitors to Alexis Park's Pegasus Showroom:

"The audience reaction is spectacular. I don’t know how he does it but they hoot and howl for an encore. He received an encore last night...the audience wouldn’t leave until he came out and did 'Sweet Caroline' again."

More than "just" a tribute artist, David Sherry is an accomplished recording artist in his own right. He's collaborated with and been endorsed by several heavy hitters within the music industry, including members of Neil Diamond's band. And Sherry's name has become somewhat legendary in Malta, his family's homeland. GLORY ROAD, his 2013 album, was released there first before a global rollout.

Sherry's latest release is COMFORTABLE ASSUMPTION, a collection of nine original songs, three Neil Diamond hits, and one very special song from Bob Seger (be sure to ask David about that fascinating tale after the show).
