- "ONE OF THE LIVING" by Tina Turner (1985) The past year has been devastating for music fans, with a number of iconic performers passing away. Two of the most noteworthy are Olivia Newton-John (9/26/48-8/8/22) and Tina Turner (11/26/39-5/24/23). Devoted followers have been clamoring for their music ever since, with Newton-John's posthumous duets album "Just The Two Of Us - Volume One" being released just last month.
Producer Kurt Brown (ALL SHOOK UP) brought his tribute show "Tina and Rod - It Takes Two" to South Point Casino a few weeks ago, and it played to sold-out audiences. Now Modern Showrooms at Alexis Park Resort is poised to launch the latest salute to Tina, Olivia, and other legends with DISCO DIVAS.
The creator and Executive Producer of DISCO DIVAS is Pete Housley. The Las Vegas resident, who oversees both Modern Showroom venues, has a proven track record with all-female casts. His ALL MOTOWN plays seven nights a week to sold-out crowds, and BurlesQ is now in its third big year.
Housley stated that DISCO DIVAS was a long-gestating project, and the time is right for it to come to fruition:
"The irony of the recent passing of the great Tina Turner does not escape us,” said Housley. "Tina’s electrifying presence and powerhouse vocals not only defined the disco era but also shattered stereotypes and paved the way for powerful women in the music industry. Her undeniable talent and unwavering determination made her an icon, inspiring generations with her music, energy, and empowering spirit."
Housley added "DISCO DIVAS promises to be a non-stop celebration of the disco era, featuring dazzling costumes, high-energy choreography, and a world-class production that will transport audiences to the heyday of disco. Whether you're a die-hard fan of the genre or simply looking for a night of vibrant entertainment, this tribute show will surely delight.”
Patrice Petway
Patrice Petway of ALL MOTOWN will lead a troupe of powerful vocalists for the new production, which opens on June 30th:"The cast includes Las Vegas veteran performers Elyse Clardy, Annie Lyon, and Kim Wood, as well as Irene Introna, Keanna Corley, and Natalia Oliveria. This all-star cast will channel the spirit of these iconic divas, delivering show-stopping performances with audiences singing and dancing along to their favorite disco anthems."
Along with Tina and Olivia, DISCO DIVAS highlights the dance hits of three other iconic performers - Donna Summer, Diana Ross, Gloria Gaynor, and Cher will all be represented. Expect to hear anthems like "I Will Survive", "Bad Girls", "Last Dance", "Never Can Say Goodbye" and "Believe".

While sure to have universal appeal, DISCO DIVAS will most certainly resonate with the LGBTQ crowd, whose ardent followers kept each of these divas in the spotlight long after they'd left the top-ten charts. That truth was evident earlier this week at a 40th-anniversary performance of DIVAS: Legends In Concert, where a large percentage of the audience was gay.
DISCO DIVAS is scheduled to perform Fridays and Saturdays at 5 pm. Tickets start at $34.95 (plus taxes/fees) and are available online at www.ModernVegas.com, by calling the Modern Showrooms Box Office at 702-483-8056, or through most major ticket brokers including TicketKite.com. The show is suitable for all ages.
Alexis Park Resort is located at 375 E. Harmon Avenue, across from Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. Free parking is available.
