UPDATE 1/11/24 - After a triumphant performance last September, FIRST LADIES OF DISCO returns to Myron's Cabaret at Smith Center this month. Here are the details from founder and artistic director James Washington:

Global hitmaker Kylie Minogue's biggest album in years was 2020's DISCO. Now she's heading to Venetian for a long-term residency. Alexis Park Resort's latest production is DISCO DIVAS, a high-energy tribute extravaganza. Even Spiegelworld is prepping its fourth Vegas production, entitled DiscoShow. Now get ready for the original dance divas themselves, as Myron's Cabaret at Smith Center presents the return of FIRST LADIES OF DISCO.

There's no question that disco is back. Vinyl collections have been dusted off and the dance floor is packed. The DISCO DIVAS show has already recorded a new cast album (available August 15th here). Free-spirited lyrics, body-pumping beats, and colorful imagery, all under a swirling mirror ball. What's not to love? As blissfully authentic as DISCO DIVAS is, there's something to be said for experiencing the real deal A trio of iconic performers from the magic era will gather on Wednesday, September 13th for an unforgettable evening of hits. Linda Clifford ("Red Light), Norma Jean Wright (of 'CHIC' fame), and The Weather Girls' Martha Wash ("It's Raining Men") will unleash a ninety-minute storm of songs you know and love.

Rolling Stone Magazine hailed FIRST LADIES OF DISCO as "the glamour of Studio 54 and the thrill of a sweaty nightclub dance floor...an evening of live music by some of the biggest hitmakers of the 70s, 80s, and 90s". Martha, Linda, and Norma sing their hits, as well as chart-toppers from favorite artists and songs. It promises to be an electrifying, high-energy concert. FIRST LADIES OF DISCO has rolled into town many times since their formation. During some of those appearances, the group included A Taste Of Honey's Janice Marie Johnson. The ladies have toured around the country for nearly a decade, and will reportedly return to Sin City in January.

Len Evans of Project Publicity informed VEGAS 411 that "Martha, Linda, and Norma are well-known to fans who came up during the soul, disco, funk, and dance music eras. Two-time Grammy nominee Martha Wash recorded and performed the classic dance hits "It's Raining Men," "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)," "Everybody, Everybody," and "Strike It Up" for the groups The Weather Girls, C&C Music Factory and Black Box respectively."

James Washington (center, above photo) is the artistic director and founder of FIRST LADIES OF DISCO. His efforts to gather these hitmakers resulted in an LLC. It's aim is to help talented artists "develop their careers, increase their visibility, and capitalize on various opportunities available in the marketplace." Clients include another disco hitmaker...Evelyn "Champagne" King ("Shame").

Author James Arena has been on the ground floor since the show's beginning. His FIRST LADIES OF DISCO: 32 Stars Discuss the Era and their Singing Careers was published in the summer of 2013. He describes F.L.O.D. as "Strong, vibrant, caring women. Powerful voices. Unforgettable music." Some of you may remember Martha Wash as being caught in the center of a Milli Vanilli-type controversy around 1990. That's when it was revealed that her C and C Music Factory vocals were falsely credited to model/actress Zelma Davis. Wash famously worked for legislation to make vocal credits mandatory. Today, she is an activist for fellow musicians and still records and tours as a solo artist.
