Formula One Gets Skewered in 'LIGHTS OUT!'

F-1 madness gets the Spiegelworld treatment at Cosmopolitan Las Vegas...

BOX BOX Spiegelworld UPDATE 11/7/23 - Spiegelworld has issued a statement regarded a name-change of their new show from "BOX BOX" to "LIGHTS OUT!". Here are the details:

"In the space of three days, Spiegelworld has announced a brand-new Las Vegas show, been forced to change the show’s name, and is now considering extending the season to meet demand. Regardless of the last-minute tire change, LIGHTS OUT! (formerly known as Box Box) will definitely be going ahead on Wednesday, November 15, inside Superfrico at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas."

"Spiegelworld’s Impresario Extraordinaire Ross Mollison said, “There’s a lot of interest in the little car race next week that is stopping Las Vegas traffic and sending show producers into a panic about the disruption to live entertainment on the Strip. It’s a global event loaded with corporate sponsorships, naming rights, and intellectual property that has lawyers wringing their hands in glee."

"But rather than running away from it, Spiegelworld decided to embrace the moment and have a shot at doing what we do best. Throwing on some drinks, pizza, and laughs.  Who else is gung-ho enough to present a new show in the middle of all this?”

“As previously announced, we called this experimental show Box Box which is another name for a pit stop,” Mollison said.  “Suddenly we had a line of angry lawyers knocking on our door, threatening to sue us because the name was too similar to a New York City adult cabaret nightclub, a Californian storage company, and a boxing gym in Pasadena."

“I said, ‘Relax guys, this is just a little bit of late-night fun for an intimate crowd, celebrating a landmark Las Vegas sporting event with some cocktails, pizza, and a few laughs.’ So, we just changed the name to LIGHTS OUT!, which means the race has started. Hopefully, we don’t get sued by the NV Energy company.”

For many of us, the chaos surrounding preparations for Sin City's first Formula One Grand Prix has been infuriating, to say the least. Spiegelworld impresario Ross Mollison, the man behind ABSINTHE, OPM, and ATOMIC SALOON SHOW, sees things just a little differently:

"Well - I'm excited about F1 coming to Vegas! So excited Spiegelworld went to Circus Town and developed a show in Nipton, California. And now - you can come see it at Superfrico at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas."

The press release for LIGHTS OUT! contains the usual superlatives and lofty promises, but chances are that this one will deliver. And if the concept tickles your fancy, don't wait to reserve your seats, because there will be only one performance.

"Join us for the electrifying world debut of the most uproarious cabaret comedy show that’s ever revved its engines. Direct from Nipton, California, LIGHTS OUT! is here to take you on a hilarious joyride through the world of racing like never before."

"LIGHTS OUT! (formerly known as BOX BOX) is not just a comedy show; it’s a turbocharged celebration of motor racing’s legendary history, iconic personalities, and the absurdities that make it all the more thrilling. Whether you’re a die-hard racing fan or just looking for a good laugh, buckle up and enjoy the ride."

Which is to say, LIGHTS OUT! will be filled with acrobatics, pop-culture references, music, dance, and lots of naughty humor. The midnight showtime should make it clear that LIGHTS OUT! is not for children. But then again, this writer can't recall any Spiegelworld shows that ever were. In early August, I published a piece entitled "Spiegelworld's Latest Plans to Conquer the Entertainment Landscape". In it, I described new and upcoming shows like The Hook in Atlantic City and DiscoShow at The Linq. And despite my mention of Circus Town in Nipton, California, nowhere was it revealed that an F1-themed production was headed to Cosmopolitan. That Ross Mollison loves to unveil surprises. So if you're already caught up in the Grand Prix madness and don't want to spin your wheels, head to Cosmopolitan's Superfrico/OPM complex on November 15th. Doors open at 11 p.m. and showtime is at midnight. There is no charge to see LIGHTS OUT!, but a $100 per person minimum is required for food and beverages. Click here to make reservations. All seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. OPM Theater is located on the second level of Chelsea Tower at Cosmopolitan Resort Las Vegas. Click here for dining reservations at Superfrico, and head here for tickets to OPM.
