GROW UP! Disney is NOT Coming to Sin City
It's time to squash the rumor of a Mouse House Resort on the Strip.
Many believe that if you verbalize a desire or "put it out into the universe", your thought can manifest into reality. But wishing on a star for Disney to land in Sin City would be an unwelcome nightmare, not a dream. This is one rumor that I want to squash once and for all.
What would be the problem with a Disney Las Vegas Resort? EVERYTHING! First and foremost, this city was designed to be an escape from children, not a destination for them. It's 'Sin City'....get it? People don't walk around casinos with a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other just to trip over someone's rugrats.
Secondly, the Walt Disney Company has plenty of other problems to deal with. Star Wars and Marvel Studio franchises are faltering with longtime fans. Disney theme park attendance is dropping due to a combination of outrageous prices, inflation, and other factors. Disney movie releases are stuck in remake/reboot/sequel/prequel purgatory. And worst of all, accusations of "wokeness" have given the Disney name an ugly stench that permeates everything it touches...the same stench that resulted from partnering with the reprehensible Kardashian clan.
A label has been created to describe the situation. It's called "Disney Fatigue". The phrase started being tossed around in early 2023, not long after the animated Disney film STRANGE WORLD flopped at the global box office. That single movie lost an estimated $197 million dollars for the studio. It was followed by WISH, another dud that lost $130 million. Both suffered scathing reviews, too.
Apparently, giving up on new ideas, Disney scheduled "live" remakes of Moana, The Lion King, Tangled, and Lilo & Stitch. They put out an unnecessary Lion King prequel, released the 35th Marvel movie to middling reviews, rolled out more Star Wars television shows, and barfed up a substandard animated Moana sequel. Tron 3, Ice Age 6, Toy Story 5, Frozen 3, and a sequel to the second of three Freaky Friday remakes are all in the works. Do you see a pattern here?
Worse yet, a live remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves has suffered a series of delays, reshoots, objections, and controversy. Actor Peter Dinklage attacked the production for using computer-generated characters instead of employing actual "small people". The casting of biracial actress Rachel Zegler for a character described as "white as snow" raised ire from purists.
Zegler turned the $209 million production into a circus by publicly slurring the 1937 classic numerous times. She referred to the Prince as "a guy who literally stalks her", mocked the singing style of original Snow White voice artist Adriana Caselotti, and said that the new version would toss out its romantic storyline in favor of female empowerment.
'Snow White and the Seven Dwarves' is no longer the project's name. Disney has removed the dwarves from the title, and Snow White's friends are now referred to as "magical creatures." The phrase "Fairest of them All" will no longer reference the lead character's appearance but her moral compass. These alterations have led to cries of "Woke! Woke! Woke!"
So-called "wokeness" and virtue signaling have been a BIG problem for Disney in recent years. Many feel the company has pushed inclusion and diversity beyond the point of reality and into absurdity.
From a biracial gay teen protagonist with a handicapped dog in STRANGE WORLD to a black "Ariel" in THE LITTLE MERMAID live remake, efforts towards equality are viewed as a gimmick, not a socially responsible choice.
So we've established that Walt Disney Company's parks have become less appealing. Disney cinematic offerings have gone from "innovative" to "rinse-release-repeat", and its public image is sinking deep in the toilet. Do you think the way to rebuild a reputation for "wholesome family entertainment" is by constructing a casino resort in Sin City? Sure, Jan.
Nothing about 'Disney Las Vegas' is believable. So how did the rumor get started? You can thank my colleagues, influencers, and bloggers, who churn out nonsense like this to drive traffic to their pages. From the sale and renovation of the EXCALIBUR to a brand new resort on the site of Circus Circus, this foolishness keeps getting recycled over and over. None of it is based in fact, yet the same story is run every week or so.
Las Vegas is all about extreme thrills and forbidden desires. Sex, drugs, alcohol, marijuana, topless revues, and girls "Direct To Your Room!". Anyone who believes this city needs the Disney name should have a brain scan. If you're a parent who considers 'Walt Disney Resort Las Vegas' a good idea, then maybe a visit from Child Protective Services is overdue.
There will always be those who defend bringing their children to Las Vegas. "My parents brought me, and I turned out okay," Did you, really? Take a look at the series of photos below, many of which this writer took. They depict situations in which parents blatantly break the law, allowing their children to sit at slot machines and take a chair inside sports betting areas.
Check out the stroller parked under a sign for a topless revue, and kids being absolute nuisances inside a restaurant at 2 am while their parents look the other way. Some of you will think it's wrong to show the faces of the children in these photographs....that they should be "protected". And yet their parents thought nothing about keeping them away from inappropriate and unsafe situations. How ironic, no?
Then there are those irresponsible parents who selfishly drag their kids around the Strip and Fremont Street way after midnight. They even allow them to run loose between the legs of intoxicated strangers. It's child endangerment, ladies and gents. Kids have no place in the adult-oriented tourist corridors of Las Vegas. And neither does the Walt Disney Company.
