Make a Date With 'MATERIAL GIRLS'

Female super-talents unleash hits of yesterday and today...

From "Uptown Girl" and "Tiny Dancer" to "Rosanna" and "Private Dancer", songs about ladies are performed up and down the Strip. But legendary titles made famous by women sometimes get the short shift. With QUEENS OF ROCK on tour and local rocker LUCIEFR only hitting the stage every month or so, we could all use a bigger helping of music from female superstars.

Gabie Lopez in EXXCITE

MATERIAL GIRLS is a new group comprised of three exciting performers. At their center is Gabie Lopez, whom we introduced you to in this piece last fall. With her breakout show EXXCITE currently on hiatus, Ms. Lopez has landed on a Cirque du Soleil stage. She's featured as a vocalist in New York NY's MAD APPLE, the acrobatic troupe's latest musical/comedy romp for Las Vegas. The charismatic singer, who is relatively new to Sin City, honed her chops on cruise ship stages. After a year of entertaining in Japan, the California native returned to the States and has performed up and down the Strip. Now she's gathered some equally talented ladies to present female-centric hits from the eighties through today.  Joining Ms. Lopez on this new musical venture is Jenn De La Torre. The Las Vegas native, who also perfected her art while cruising the oceans, is best known in Las Vegas for her stunning work at Bellagio's Mayfair Supper Club. Ms. De La Torre has collaborated with Sin City super-entertainer Zowie Bowie and brings down the house when appearing at MONDAYS DARK. She also built a following by rocking out with Justin Michael Rodriguez (Franki Valli & The Four Seasons) in the electrifying ExtremeLIVE Band. Rounding out this trio is newcomer Bree Lenae. So far we know very little about this lovely vocalist. Ms. Lopez told us that since Lenae is new to Las Vegas, she "snatched her up before she started getting booked out." That's a testimony to potential if we ever heard one.

MATERIAL GIRLS will make its official debut with a dinner show at Italian American Club on March 27th. Show time is at 8 pm. Doors open at six, and buffet service begins at 6:30 pm. If you've never visited the Italian American Club, it's a must-do outing. The IAC, which has been around for over five decades, serves cuisine as legendary as its entertainment offerings. Joining MATERIAL GIRLS for their premiere will be a trio of Las Vegas icons: Anne Martinez (BAZ), Vincent John (The Bronx Wanderers), and Lorena Peril (FANTASY). The three guests, who regularly fill venues for their solo shows, should help guarantee a sold-out evening at MATERIAL GIRLS. The set list for MATERIAL GIRLS promises a fabulous evening of music. Hits from the likes of The Bangles, Donna Summer, Gloria Estefan, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, and more will be highlighted. Before the March 27th debut, Gabie Lopez and her cast will do a media blitz to promote the show. They'll be guest performers at MONDAYS DARK on March 4th, visit The Mark O'Toole Variety Show on March 6th, and then belt out a song or two at The Dennis Bono Show on March 7th.
