Not only is March 8th known as 'International Woman's Day,' but the entire month is devoted to women's history. In honor of these events, VEGAS 411 will launch a new series profiling significant female performers (like Christine Shebeck, above center). But first, here's a look at noteworthy shows in the days and weeks ahead:
What suits a legend most? Tribute productions, of course. RAINBOW CABARET is a one-night salute to three iconic female entertainers: Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli, and Joan Rivers. Think of this as one of those "concerts that never was."
With CABARET finishing a wildly successful run at the Majestic Repertory Theater, RAINBOW CABARET may be opening at the perfect time. The wonderful Barbara Brighton, who plays Joan Rivers in the show, tells me that she and fellow castmembers have worked since last year to get it off the ground.
'Modern Showrooms at Alexis Park Resort' is the perfect location for such a tribute. Its two theaters are a virtual paradise for fans of vintage entertainment. The Alexis Park entertainment lineup covers the glory days of disco, the thrills of Motown hits, and recreations of performances by Frankie Valli, Elvis Presley, Tina Turner, Donna Summer, Frank Sinatra, and many more.
Along with Brighton, RAINBOW CABARET stars Denise Rose as Garland and Suzanne Goulet as Minnelli. The showtime is 7 p.m. on April 10th. Tickets are $25. Get yours by heading here.
Canadian hitmaker Martha Wainwright is embarking on a nationwide tour to celebrate the release of her self-titled debut album in 2005. Beginning as a backup singer for famed brother Rufus, Ms. Wainwright moved to the forefront and has delighted fans ever since.
"My first record tells my story, and when it was finally released, I was able to work and tour and have a career in music - something that I always wanted but wasn't sure would happen. I'm very proud of it, and still sing many of these early songs." - Martha Wainwright
Seven albums have been released, and Martha Wainwright is now looking back on the past twenty years. In addition to her live performance tour, the anniversary is being celebrated by the release of her first album on a single vinyl LP and a deluxe two-disc edition. Ms. Wainwright will play Myron's at Smith Center on March 29th at 7 pm. Tickets start at $45.00 and can be ordered here. Brad Barr will be the opening act. Three glamorous ladies from Washington D.C. that appeal to audiences of all ages and demographics. The String Queens is a dynamic trio blending orchestral sounds with modern sensibilities. They take listeners on a delightful journey through time, from the Baroque Era to the Jazz Age, visiting many genres along the way. The String Queens land at Myon's on April 19th at 7 pm. Tickets start at $45 and can be reserved here.
If you enjoy live performances that are infused with elegance, playful sensuality, and a sprinkle of "cha cha cha", then Zonya de La Guardia is for you.
"Sabor y Sanido" is Zonya's latest Latin-infused musical showcase: "Experience an unforgettable night of passion, power, and Latin soul as Zonya de la Guardia takes the stage in Sabor y Sonido—a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Linda Ronstadt and other iconic Latina artists who have shaped the world of music."
SOPHISTICATED LADIES is the name of Kelly Vohnn's latest production. The stylish songstress, well known for her tribute to Dolly Person, will take to Sun City Anthem's Freedom Hall stage on March 15th to salute some of the best-know female singers of our age.
Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Adele, Etta James, and many more will be given the Kelly Vohnn treatment in SOPHISTICATED LADIES. Musical Director Keith Thompson provides the music while Kelly fills the evening with beloved songs and humorous banter. The showtime is 7 pm. Call 702-614-5860 for tickets.
We hear that Ms. Vohnn may also make an appearance at Ed Sullivan's HEROES OF ROCK & ROLL SHOW on April 5th at Starbright Theater in Summerlin. Showtime is 6 pm, and tickets are $25. Call 702-240-1301 for more information.
You may remember beautiful Sandy Knights from this VEGAS 411 profile piece. The hard-working vocalist is drenching the Vegas Valley in her magic. Since Sandy is so busy, we're sharing a recent graphic from her Facebook page. Seek out this wonderful artist and have a great time.
Fledgling artists might want to study the career path of jazz treasure Rita Lim. The always-elegant singer is as prolific as they come, combining her Tuscany Resort residency with appearances at The Bootlegger, Prosecco, and Maxan Jazz. Each performance is steeped in respectful appreciation for her colleagues and audience.
Fresh off a smash fourth edition of SOUL FUSION at Smith Center, Ms. Lim is enjoying rave reviews for her latest album, "Until The Stars Fall From The Sky." You can listen to it on Spotify here and Amazon Music here.
This April, Rita returns to Myron's at Smith Center for TWO STRONG HEARTS. A heartfelt tribute to the careers of Karen Carpenter and Olivia Newton-John, this production highlights the friendship these artists shared through songs and stories.
Tickets for RITA LIM: TWO STRONG HEARTS start at $39 and can be ordered here. Curtain time is 7 pm on April 30th. Rita's show is suitable for all ages.
The term "visual artist" takes on a different meaning when used to describe Katy Monroe. The buxomy bombshell is Miss April for Italy's official 2025 Playboy Calendar. The Vegas-based model and singer spends much of her time touring and performing on cruise ships.
This year, she's excited about the release of new recordings. BAD FOR YOU is Katy's four-song collection, and she was excited to tell me about it:
"I have an EP with three original tracks produced by Robert Boogie Bowles (Smokey Robinson's longtime guitarist) and his company BTB Live. The last, "One Night Won't Do", was released in all digital formats on 3/7/2025. This has been my first professional studio experience, as I’ve done production shows professionally since I was sixteen."
